Hi, will a recording be sent to all the participants?
Amy Reising
36:47
Yes
Amy Reising
40:37
The webinar will be recorded and shared.

Please put your questions in the Chat. We will pause periodically to answer questions. Thank you
Tonya Almeida
54:58
Hi Flor, just letting you know that your camera is on.
Jazmine Castro
56:09
Does zoom count as students using technology?
Lei Ai Bambarger
57:05
My district has not approved us to use Zoom. Also, we are not using a grading system. We are only assigning pass and no pass. *For this semester
baileeflaugher1
58:26
No, Jazmine. Because it does not strengthen their knowledge on the content.
Jazmine Castro
01:00:07
very true, thank you !
Dan Armstrong
01:00:15
What if students are doing breakout sessions within Zoom to discuss a topic in order to strengthen their knowledge on the content?
Amy Reising
01:00:34
Jazmine...as long as the Zoom work is related to the content of the lessons, then yes, it can meet the ed tech requirement for students in Cycle 2. We will talk about this later in the presentation.
Jazmine Castro
01:01:14
oh great thank you I appreciate it! :)
Amy Reising
01:01:46
Dan, yes. Again, more later on this topic as we move through the presentation. Great questions!
Abraham Sandoval
01:01:52
Is it ok if we work with a small group of students through zoom for the TPA or does it have to be the whole class?
Audri Sandoval Gomez
01:03:22
COVID-19 webpage (https://www.ctc.ca.gov/commission/covid-19-information-for-commission-stakeholders)
Amy Reising
01:03:30
Small groups can be considered a class group. Carefully read the Assessment Guide descriptions for each video clip as they state explicitly how many students are expected. We will talk about each cycle as we go.

Amy Reising
01:06:38
CalTPA Coordinators and faculty are your best, first level resource for questions.
Darci Knight
01:10:38
This says “proposed”… are they actual or just proposed?
Lei Ai Bambarger
01:10:58
can we use the same video recording permission letter before COVID-19 or is there a new letter for virtual recording?
Gay Roby
01:11:39
Darci—what one more slide and we’ll clue you in on the “proposed’ status
Derrick Lietz
01:12:03
How long is the VTW valid?
Lei Ai Bambarger
01:12:08
If my program gets the VTW approved, can I still do option 1?
Jessica Beck
01:12:31
VTW is valid for one year
lzamora
01:13:16
The support for completing the prelim requirements comes from the induction program?
Erin Enguero
01:13:59
Is Option 3 more catered to those who still need to complete Cycle 2?
Micah Kee
01:15:37
Would something like a live recorded Kahoot work, where I as the teacher am on video instructing the students but they are not on video, or do the students need to physically appear on video? Our district is not allowing students to be on video, but they can be on audio.
Erin Enguero
01:15:44
Thanks!
Sierra Hemphill
01:16:59
At the moment, many districts are rejecting teacher candidate applications when the VTW is mentioned. How will this be addressed when teacher candidates are unable to be hired?
Meghan Cosier
01:20:51
A similar question to Micah Kee. Some students can live record, but only 5-6 students can be seen in the recording or no students can be seen due to district guidelines. Is this acceptable?
Joanna Tepper
01:21:08
Earlier in the presentation, Amy mentioned that the VTW will allow us to enroll in a local induction porgram to help us complete TPAs and the RICA. However, it was just said that VTW does not apply to those who are enrolled in induction?
Gay Roby
01:21:19
Micah—both you, the candidate, and the students must be visible on the video submissions
Amy Reising
01:22:28
Sierra...not sure what you are saying? Districts can hire teachers on the VTW. Please clarify your question...thank you!
Amy Reising
01:23:09
Current Induction teachers do not need to apply for a VTW to complete Induction.
Micah Kee
01:23:19
How many students would need to appear on each video? Amy Reising mentioned earlier it would be in the TPA assessment guidelines but I could not find anything that said how many students would be required in each video.
Tonya Almeida
01:23:32
any chance you can go back to slide 32?
Gay Roby
01:23:33
Darci==yes, if you follow the requirements in the Assessment guide and both the candidate and students are visible.
Erin Bradley
01:23:36
to piggyback on Micah, I understand that we need to be visible. Us and the students. However, if we have a PowerPoint or use the whiteboard setting on zoom, the students or us will not be visible. If we share our screen, that’s all that’s seen. Will this be okay? the students will be in the video at certain points but maybe not all of them
Tonya Almeida
01:23:46
or where can we access the slides?
Hayley
01:23:54
Does anyone know about when the RICA tests may start opening up again? Roughly?
Dan Armstrong
01:23:57
If you are hired on a VTW and had not completed CalTPA Cycle 2, would you have to complete that during induction program?
Natalie Wood
01:24:21
Hayley, Copernicus locations are taking test takers
Mrs. Driscoll
01:24:26
I think Sierra is saying that districts might not to hire those with a VTW because of the additional induction support that the teacher will need. Especially during this difficult time
Andrea Sallady
01:24:31
For RICA, some test centers are still open. They just are not owned by Pearson.
Hayley
01:24:58
Thank you Natalie and Andrea!!! :)
Gay Roby
01:25:24
Micah—if the guide is silent on the number of students visible, then one student would be sufficient.
Yomee Jones
01:25:36
If you receive the VTW as a multiple subject candidate, do you need to re-do your hours, supervisor visits and videos for Cycle 1?
Stacy’s iPhone
01:25:42
if you apply for the VTW for the RICA, can you still do TPA cycle 2 virtually?
krystalhaynes
01:26:51
Do Education Specialist candidates that have passed their RICA and will complete their coursework but not their hours need to apply for the VTW?
Gay Roby
01:27:13
Erin—at some point, perhaps before the ppT is being shown, the candidate must be seen. Many platforms offer many options of screen sharing that work.
Brooke Manning
01:27:32
Can we sub with the VTW?
Miguel Garcia
01:27:54
I thought that we are going to teach in the fall with restrictions being lifted in May
Gay Roby
01:28:24
Tonya—slides will be posted on YouTube on the CTC’s playlist and CAIS may make them available to you as well.
Gay Roby
01:28:55
Dan—Yes
Miguel Garcia
01:29:48
How are we supposed to meet requirements if we can’t get in the classroom. This is very confusing on an already stressful situation
Lei Ai Bambarger
01:30:23
Will there be any changes in the criteria, rubric, and/or TPEs?
Gay Roby
01:30:23
Mrs. Driscoll—it will not require additional induction support, but will be the focal point of the first stage of work with a mentor, using your individualized Learning Plan
Gay Roby
01:31:52
Yomee—I think we may need more information on your question but if you have previously completed Cycle 1, it should not need to be redone
Gay Roby
01:32:33
Stacy—yes
Gay Roby
01:33:24
Miguel—if you are not in the classroom, one of the other options will be better fit for your needs.
Tierra Roman
01:34:25
Do Education Specialist candidates that have passed their RICA and will complete their coursework but not their hours need to apply for the VTW?
Gay Roby
01:34:48
Lei Ai—if you complete after the 2020-2021 materials are released, you will be assessed by those rubrics. However, very few changes are expected and most revolve around greater clarity
Hayley
01:35:11
Can anyone offer any resources about induction programs I can go through in a private school setting in Orange/Riverside County?
Karla Machuca
01:36:29
Do Education Specialist candidates that have passed their RICA and will complete their coursework but not their hours need to apply for the VTW?
talineketenjian
01:36:39
If we finish all the coursework and hours required for the preliminary credential but go on the VTW throughout the first year of employment/induction, does that mean we technically won’t receive our preliminary credential? To clarify, if I choose the VTW option, will I still be able to apply to schools saying I have a preliminary credential?
Yomee Jones
01:37:25
I haven’t completed Cycle 1 but I was just wondering if the work I’ve done thus far needs to be re-done, like the videos and supervisor visits, if I need the VTW
Gay Roby
01:39:30
Talinekerenjian—you would teach using the waiver as your authority until you complete the preliminary requirements and then receive that credential.
Gay Roby
01:41:08
County offices would be my first suggestion…
Courtney Gordon
01:45:07
From what the CTC knows as of now, are most districts planning on resuming face to face instruction in the fall or will they likely continue on an online platform?
Jessica Beck
01:45:56
What is the likelihood that we will be returning to the classroom for instruction in the fall?
Lei Ai Bambarger
01:47:13
can my reteach be virtual?
Gay Roby
01:48:35
Courtney and Jessica—sorry, my crystal ball is still cloudy on this question…..I know people want to return to normal, but what will that be?
Gay Roby
01:49:05
Lei Ai—yes, your reteach can be virtual, as long as we see you and the students during the reteach
Erin Bradley
01:49:37
I am working on cycle 2. I have permission to do recorded classes from my school and that’s not an issue. However, we can’t prove academic honesty because of the online setting. Is that okay?
Micah Kee
01:50:00
Can the student work be online, such as a Google form?
Gay Roby
01:50:27
Yomee—if you are employed on a VTW, your job assignment will become your setting for cycle one. As that is where you will be daily, you might find it easier to redo cycle 1 if you did not yet submit it.
Gay Roby
01:51:00
Micah—yes
Gay Roby
01:52:01
Erin—I would move forward with positive intentionality and assume academic honesty until something comes to your attention that makes you question that.
Amy Reising
01:52:03
The Google Suite of tools can be used. Remember that instruction must be, for the video recordings, conducted synchronously.
Nicole Kiralla
01:52:28
I can use screen recording of Zoom meetings for clips right?
Amy Reising
01:52:36
The example is coming up now! Google Education Suite...
Audri Sandoval Gomez
01:52:42
Please access the CalTPA Padlet....use https://bit.ly/CalTPAPadlet
Gay Roby
01:52:47
Nicole—Right!
Judy Khampeth
01:53:11
It would be great to see how physical education is taught in an online setting.
Amy Reising
01:53:14
Yes, Zoom clips can be used. Be sure you have permissions in place for video recording in home learning settings and online settings.
Nicole Kiralla
01:53:15
Ok, just wanted to make sure I don
Nicole Kiralla
01:53:26
thanks!*
Madalyn Attaalla
01:53:27
Hello, the students I teach are my students from my placement and another class in the same grade. Is it okay if I film students from both classes (with permission from parents/school) or should I separate the classes during filming?
Amy Reising
01:53:48
Madalyn, you need to pick one "class" of students.
Madalyn Attaalla
01:54:04
Okay, thank you.
Amy Reising
01:55:35
Here is a PE example!
Judy Khampeth
01:55:59
Thank you!!
Amy Reising
01:56:37
Math example!
H Barnes
01:56:37
Question about focus students...does the 'EL' student have to be officially identified? We have many students that are Spanish-speaking, and Spanish is spoken at home, but the parents refuse to formally identify the student. In both of my placements, this was the case.
Emily Wagner
01:56:37
Are there any examples that apply to lower grades such as TK or K? Completing the TPA through technology is a lot easier with upper grades and children who can already use technology and read.
Mishkas Alqam
01:57:36
Hello, at my school site we are only giving dojo points for participation. How will this effect our evaluation process?
Erin Bradley
01:57:47
I’m a music teacher candidate. So based on the PE example, I’m a little lost. I am doing cycle 2 and want to make sure I do it right. I know it is assessment driven instruction, but don’t know what exactly should be filmed or used for my material for the TPA
Derrick Lietz
01:57:49
When finishing a job application with my VTW, would I still state that I am expecting a preliminary credential at the end of the academic year? --- Will CA school districts be made aware of incoming candidates with a VTW?
Amy Reising
01:58:17
HBarnes: Read the Assessment Guide...you will note that the EL student can be identified, recently moved out of a program, or if you have no identified EL students you can identify a student who needs support with reading, writing, speaking, or listening.
Judy Khampeth
01:58:55
Following you Derek, I am interested in applying as well but I do not have a Credential copy to submit given this unconventional situation
Amy Reising
02:00:43
Watch the CTC webinar that was recorded yesterday. Online Webinars are posted on the CTC's You Tube channel.
Natalie Wood
02:02:33
Judy, some districts are allowing letter of intents from your program. This is what I've uploaded when applying
Erin Bradley
02:02:45
my school has IPads provided to the teachers and the students (in general, not just for the covid needs). We have our own program we use, ManageBac, instead of things like google classroom. There isn’t a way for me to get me and my students to have that done in time. Is it okay to complete the TPA’s with the google account?
Gay Roby
02:02:54
Erin, can you tell Wayne was also a music teacher?
Amy Reising
02:03:07
All webinars have been recorded and are now posted on the Commission’s YouTube Channel.
Judy Khampeth
02:03:11
Thank you Natakie

Emily Wagner
02:04:17
If I teach the lessons for my Cycle 2 to my entire class but at different times/groups, do I need to record the same group every time? Also, would the group I record with have to have a high, medium, and low student?
Amy Reising
02:05:04
Emily...no you do not need to record the same group each time.
Amy Reising
02:06:53
Remember, both you the candidate and your students need to be seen in the video recordings. Read the assessment guide for specific direction for each video clip.
Gay Roby

Amy Reising
02:07:42
You can go beyond 40 minutes....the time has been extended by Zoom

From there, you can peruse the many other posted videos we have (ThinSlides is one of my favorites—quick, easy, informative)!
Mishkas Alqam
02:11:00
they are participation points
Charlotte Walker
02:11:14
ClassDojo points are very similar to stickers - just virtual

02:17:33
For Cycle 1, can you pre-record your lesson and show it to your students on zoom and then be able to interact and discuss with the students from there for the lesson?
Nicole Kiralla
02:19:29
The recordings don't show the names of students in the saved file
Judy Khampeth
02:19:30
When we record our TPA videos, is there a limit on the amount of students that need to be present?
Hayley
02:20:10
Videos are supposed to be unedited.. I recorded a video for the reteach on zoom and students names are showing. Can I go in and blur out the names? Or can I NOT do that because that counts as "edited"?
Judy Khampeth
02:22:31
In zoom they could change their names.
Amy Reising
02:23:15
You can edit out the names.
Amy Reising
02:23:29
Always protect the privacy rights of your students.

02:24:32
If you hover over your picture you'll see two options, to unmute and three dots (. . .), select the dots, select "rename" then make the edit.
Mrs. Driscoll
02:24:45
Are we allowed to count these webinars or our placement hours?
Alias
02:24:49
I changed my "name to "alias" here as an example
Brandi Koehm
02:25:35
those are fantastic! Thank you...is there a place to see that schedule posted or sign up for email for those webinars offered to support our student teachers we supervise?
Hayley
02:25:37
I found out I could rename the students after the fact and didn't want to rerecord my reteach lesson! Thank you for answering my question!
Yomee Jones
02:25:55
Are we allowed to say our students’ first names in the video? We just shouldn’t show their full name?
Gay Roby

As a supervisor for Biola University for teacher preparation, this was very helpful in understanding how to better support my student teachers and understand the process of Cal TPA. Thank you!!
Audri Sandoval Gomez
02:32:05
Everyone will receive a short survey about this webinar. We hope you will take the opportunity to complete the survey. We value your feedback and hope we can continue to bring these webinars to you at no cost.

02:32:45
I was able to get a letter from my university that states I am in good standing in order to apply for employment
Amy Reising
02:33:02
Brandi, you are welcome! Let us know how we can be helpful going forward!
Tracy Jacobs
02:33:09
My program supervisor gave me a letter to post in place of the credential
Amy Reising
02:34:42
Programs can provide letters to candidates that state they are in good standing! Talk with your program and see if they have a letter for you to use. It is really a district by district choice for what they need for employment. The CTC is working with HR offices to understand what the COVID-19 VTW.
Amy Reising
02:35:38
Remember, the VTW allows you to be employed. You would then enter an Induction program and have support to finish your CalTPA.
Yomee Jones
02:35:57
Do you expect us to know our students/classroom with the same depth as before the pandemic? This question is regarding to Q’s for Cycle 1
Pati Fabila
02:36:28
if I have a MS and did 1 year of BTSA and am now finishing SPED M/M program, what does my induction requirements look like?
CSUSB Deborah Gore
02:37:41
Thank each of you for this Webinar. It has been very beneficial with assisting my Student teachers/Interns as they continue this journey towards becoming a professional educator.
Amy Reising
02:37:50
Yomee...the answer is yes. You need to understand your students assets and learning needs. Then, you determine instruction based on this knowledge ...so yes.
Audri Sandoval Gomez
02:38:15
Thank you for joining us today. Everyone will receive a short survey about this webinar. We hope you will take the opportunity to complete the survey. We value your feedback and hope we can continue to bring these webinars to you at no cost.

Thank you, administrators, for your time! This was very informative and helpful.
David Hewitt
02:38:36
This maybe too far off topic: can you briefly mention the differences between edTPA and CalTPA and why a Californai credentialing program selects one over the other.
Erin Enguero
02:38:41
Thank you, this was very informative. Appreciate you!
ashleytaylor
02:38:48
Thank you guys.
Gay Roby
02:39:00
Pati—induction programs are individually designed and should both grant you “experience” time for your first year as well as ask you to address your needs as a SpEd teacher should you have that assignment.
Amy Reising
02:39:11
Thank you for joining us today! Let us know how we can be helpful to you....we look forward to welcoming you into the profession.
